Yes, there is a Bitcoin ATM in Causeway Bay that pays cash: CoinHero's 24-hour flagship at G/F, 1A Canal Road East is listed as buy and sell. Three more machines sit within about ten minutes' walk, and the district has three staffed crypto shops, two run by One Satoshi and one by VBIT. That makes Causeway Bay the strongest cash-crypto neighbourhood on Hong Kong Island, second only to the Nathan Road corridor in Kowloon.
Why Causeway Bay became the Island's crypto cash hub
Causeway Bay is Hong Kong's biggest shopping district, and the crypto trade follows the crowds. On a Saturday afternoon the pavements between Sogo, Hysan Place and Times Square carry a mix of local shoppers, mainland visitors who came in on the East Rail line, domestic helpers on their day off and office workers from the towers around Lee Gardens. It is exactly the kind of foot traffic a coin shop wants: people with cash, people with foreign currency, and people who might like to try bitcoin once.
The result is a small cluster of operators within a square kilometre. CoinHero, Hong Kong's largest ATM network with about 100 locations, has its headquarters and flagship here. One Satoshi, the largest chain of staffed crypto shops, runs two of its ten branches in the district. VBIT, another multi-branch counter, has a street-level shop. Canal Road East: two operators a few doors apart
The most interesting street for crypto in Causeway Bay is not a shopping street at all. Canal Road East runs along the western edge of the district beside the Canal Road flyover, the traffic-choked strip where Causeway Bay meets Wan Chai and where, under the bridge at Bowrington, the "villain hitting" ladies beat paper effigies with shoes. It is a short walk west from Times Square.
Here CoinHero runs what its locator calls its "Tang Lung Street flagship shop" at G/F, 1A Canal Road East. It is listed as open 24 hours, seven days a week, and on the 30 September 2026 list it is one of only eight CoinHero machines out of about 100 that both buy and sell (an earlier September list had nine, before the Hang Hau unit went buy-only). That matters: selling is the hard part of cash crypto in Hong Kong, and most machines will not do it. The flagship is also CoinHero's headquarters, where the company says it handles OTC trades. A few doors along, One Satoshi lists a second Causeway Bay branch at Flat C, 1/F, 1–2 Canal Road East, which it labels its Times Square branch. It opens on weekdays only, from 10:30 to 19:00.

Having both a machine that pays cash and a staffed counter on the same short strip is unusual. It means you can compare in real time. For most amounts above a couple of thousand dollars, the counter will be cheaper, because counter spreads are usually a few percent or less while the machine charges 13% plus a fixed fee. CoinHero's second Causeway Bay machine is in Taketoys on the first floor of 38–40 Jardine's Bazaar, the market lane behind the Jardine's Crescent stalls. CoinHero's own locator describes the venue as a sex shop, so this is not the place for a first-timer who wants a quiet corner. It opens from 11:00 to midnight and only sells coins, it does not buy them back.
Nitroswap's machine is in Red Mall on Jaffe Road, a first-floor arcade at the Wan Chai end of the district. Aggregator listings give its hours as 9:00 to 21:00 and describe it as buy and sell. We could not confirm this on Nitroswap's own site, so check before relying on it for a cash-out. CoinUnit's machine at Shop A, EIB Tower on Morrison Hill Road is technically at the southern edge of Causeway Bay, on the way towards Happy Valley, and is open 24/7. CoinUnit takes only HK$500 and HK$1,000 notes and handles selling by request.

One Satoshi's main branch is on the second floor of Causeway Place, the small mall directly above Causeway Bay station Exit E, at 1 Yee Wo Street. It is the easiest crypto counter on the Island to find: out of the exit, up the escalators, and look for Shop 260. It is open seven days a week. The Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong's guide says One Satoshi requires a minimum of HK$1,000 per trade and collects personal information above HK$80,000; that guide is undated, so confirm the thresholds at the counter. One Satoshi deals in cash for BTC, ETH and, historically, USDT.
VBIT's shop is at street level on King Lung Street (景隆街). Some directories spell it "King Lam Street"; VBIT's website gives King Lung Street, and we use that. It opens daily from 11:00 to 19:30. VBIT lists BTC, ETH, Solana, BNB, Dogecoin and Tron, and describes USDT as "withdrawal only", which is how it has responded to the Stablecoins Ordinance: you can sell USDT to the shop, but it will not offer it to you. VBIT says it follows AML and KYC rules but does not publish thresholds.
One name you may still see online is CoinUnited OTC, listed in Causeway Bay by the Bitcoin Association's guide. CoinUnited rebranded as CoinUnit years ago, and we found no current staffed counter under either name in the district, so treat that listing as stale. For a first purchase of a few hundred dollars at midnight, the machines are the only choice, and you will pay for it. For anything over about HK$2,000 in shop hours, a counter will almost always be cheaper and you can ask questions. For selling, Causeway Bay is one of the best-served districts in Hong Kong, but a licensed platform plus FPS is cheaper still, and does not involve walking out of a mall with a bundle of notes. OSL, Hong Kong's first SFC-licensed virtual-asset trading platform, is listed by business directories on the 39th floor of Lee Garden One on Hysan Avenue, the office tower above the Lee Gardens luxury malls. A competing directory lists OSL in Quarry Bay, and we have not been able to confirm the address with OSL itself. Either way, there is nothing to walk into. OSL is used through its app, funded by bank transfer or FPS, and it is one of the platforms the SFC points retail investors to. Crowds, cash and safety in Causeway Bay
Causeway Bay's crowds are a double-edged sword. They make the district feel safe, and generally it is. They also make it easy for someone to follow you out of a mall. The city's recent crypto crime record is a reminder that cash shops attract attention: in December 2025 three to five men with knives tried to rob a crypto shop owner at closing time in W Plaza, 608 Nathan Road in Mong Kok, and between late 2025 and March 2026 Sheung Wan saw three large robberies of people moving cash to or from money changers. Nothing on that scale has been reported in Causeway Bay, and we would like to keep it that way.
A few habits help. Withdraw notes from a bank branch or ATM inside a mall, not on the street. Complete your trade inside the shop, count the notes on the counter, and put them away before you leave. Do not use the Canal Road East machine at 3am with a large sum; it is on a busy road, but the pavement under the flyover is quiet at night. Never scan a QR code offered by a helpful stranger or a caller who says they are from the police, the tax office or a bank; that is how most Bitcoin ATM scams start. If you are a visitor with foreign cash, change it at a licensed money-service operator first. Crypto shops are not the place to test exchange rates on unfamiliar currencies, and none of them is licensed as a crypto dealer.
What the dealer licensing law will mean for Causeway Bay
Causeway Bay has more to lose from the coming regime than any other district on the Island, because it has more shops. The government told LegCo on 1 June 2026 that it aims to introduce the virtual-asset dealer and custodian bill within 2026, and that there will be no deeming or transitional period. The proposed scope covers VA-for-fiat conversion "through physical locations", which captures One Satoshi, VBIT and very likely CoinHero's ATM network. Entry requirements include HK$5 million of paid-up capital and custody with an SFC-licensed custodian.
The larger chains in Causeway Bay are better placed than one-room upstairs shops elsewhere, and some may apply for licences. But nothing is guaranteed, and on the day the law starts any unlicensed counter must stop dealing. Do not leave balances with any shop or ATM operator. Selling USDT to a shop is a grey area. Since 1 August 2025 the government says shops cannot offer USDT to the public, and VBIT now lists USDT as "withdrawal only". Shops may still buy it from you, but check the policy first. The legally cleanest way to turn USDT into Hong Kong dollars is a licensed platform and FPS.
Is OSL's office in Causeway Bay?
Company directories list OSL Digital Securities at 39/F, Lee Garden One, 33 Hysan Avenue, Causeway Bay, but one competitor directory lists it in Quarry Bay, so we treat the address as unconfirmed. Either way it is an office, not a shop. OSL, licensed by the SFC in December 2020, is used through its app.
How much does the CoinHero Bitcoin ATM in Causeway Bay charge?
CoinHero's FAQ lists 13% plus HK$100 per purchase of BTC or ETH and 13% plus HK$25 per sale, with a HK$500 minimum. Transactions above HK$100,000 require registration with ID, selfie and fingerprint. A free membership halves ATM fees. The flagship's staff can also quote OTC trades, which are usually cheaper than the machine.
