Crypto in the New Territories is mostly a machine business. CoinHero, the largest ATM network, puts more of its locations here than in Kowloon or on the Island, and CoinUnit and Nitroswap add dozens more across the new towns. Walk-in counters are rare: six that we could tie to an operator, in Tsuen Wan, Yuen Long, Sheung Shui and Sha Tin, and none at all in Tuen Mun, Tai Po, Tseung Kwan O or on Lantau.
Crypto in the New Territories at a glance
When we compiled our research, CoinHero's locator counted 41 "New Territories & Islands" sites against 35 in Kowloon and 24 on the Island. By the time we re-read it on 30 September 2026 the NT figure had slipped to 38, which is a fair illustration of how fast these lists move. Of those, three are marked buy-and-sell: Sheung Shui, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long. A Hang Hau machine that had been on the sell list no longer was.
The machines follow the population. They sit in 24-hour laundries, estate shopping centres and ground-floor shops in Tsuen Wan, Kwai Fong, Tsing Yi, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai, Sha Tin, Tai Wai, Ma On Shan, Tai Po, Fanling, Sheung Shui and Tseung Kwan O. What they rarely do is sit near each other in the way Mong Kok's machines do, so a failed transaction can mean a bus ride to the next one. Check the operator's live map before you set out; we list a representative sample, not every unit.

Tsuen Wan is the region's hub: two counters, several CoinUnit laundries and three CoinHero sites, plus search demand for USDT exchange. Yuen Long combines a One Satoshi branch with a 24-hour sell machine on Pau Cheung Square and more CoinUnit units than any other NT town. Sha Tin has two One Satoshi counters, at Shatin Plaza and Shek Mun. Tuen Mun has machines, one of which sells, but no counter. Tai Po is ATM-only. Sai Kung and Tseung Kwan O has one machine in Sai Kung town and a handful in TKO. Lantau and the airport has nothing.
The few staffed counters
One Satoshi is the only chain with a real New Territories footprint: four branches out of the ten on its official list, in Yuen Long, Sheung Shui and two in Sha Tin. They buy and sell BTC and ETH for cash; the Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong's guide gives a HK$1,000 minimum and says personal details are collected above HK$80,000. Aggregator listings also show One Satoshi "teller" machines at some of its shops, including Tsuen Wan and Sheung Shui.
Tsuen Wan has the two independents. Crypto HK lists a shop in Chuen Fung Centre on Wo Liu Hang Road, and PP Crypto Exchange takes appointments at Emperor Plaza on Tai Ho Road, near Exit A1. A January 2025 third-party list also named DCoin OTC in Yuen Long; we could not confirm that it still trades. Before you travel, call ahead: a counter that closed last month will still appear in half the directories online.

Bitcoin ATMs in the New Territories
The three buy-and-sell machines are spread across the north-west and the border. Sheung Shui's CoinHero on San Kung Street is a few minutes from the East Rail station; Tuen Mun's is in the Man Bo Building on Tsing Hoi Circuit, near the town centre; Yuen Long's is on Pau Cheung Square, a short walk from the Light Rail. If you need to sell in Sha Tin, Tai Po or Tseung Kwan O, you will be travelling to one of those, or to Kowloon.
Everything else is buy-only. On the west, CoinHero has sites in Tsuen Wan, Kwai Fong, Kwai Shing, Kwai Chung, Tsing Yi, Tuen Mun and Tin Shui Wai, and CoinUnit lists five Yuen Long machines and three in Tuen Mun. On the east, CoinHero covers Sha Tin, Tai Wai, Ma On Shan, three Tai Po estates and two Fanling sites, and TKO has three CoinHero machines plus CoinUnit at Tsui Lam Square and Nitroswap on Yuk Nga Lane.

Costs do not change with the postcode. CoinHero lists 13% plus HK$100 to buy BTC or ETH, a HK$500 minimum and a HK$100,000 cap per unregistered transaction; selling costs 13% plus HK$25. CoinUnit takes only HK$500 and HK$1,000 notes; a quoted HK$90 plus 6.9% fee could not be confirmed on its site. The Bitcoin ATM guide and CoinHero review have the detail.
Planning by rail line
The easiest way to plan in the New Territories is by line. The western Tuen Ma line links Tuen Mun, Tin Shui Wai and Yuen Long, and between Yuen Long's counter and the sell machines in Yuen Long and Tuen Mun, the north-west can buy and sell without leaving it. East Rail is different: Sha Tin's two counters have no sell machine nearby, Tai Po and Fanling are machine-only, and only at Sheung Shui do a counter and a sell machine appear together, so from Tai Po it is often quicker to go three stops north than to head into Kowloon. On the Tsuen Wan and Tung Chung lines, Kwai Fong and Tsing Yi are the nearest machines for anyone coming from Tung Chung. On the TKO line, everything is buy-only, and the nearest counter is on Hoi Yuen Road in Kwun Tong, via Yau Tong.
Sheung Shui, Fanling and the border
Sheung Shui and Fanling sit next to the Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau crossings, and the crypto infrastructure there looks shaped by it. Sheung Shui has both a One Satoshi counter on San Hong Street and a CoinHero sell machine on San Kung Street, two blocks apart, which is unusual for a town of its size. Coin ATM Radar's own listings, as seen in search snippets, split out two machines in Fanling and one in Sheung Shui. Our reading, and it is an inference rather than a measured fact, is that some of this demand is cross-boundary.
Border towns also carry the risks that come with large cash flows. The police laundering case reported in May 2025, in which cash from 500 stooge accounts was carried to "virtual asset exchange stores" and converted, is a reminder that counters can be used by others in ways that expose you. Science Park and the Web3 scene
The New Territories also hold Hong Kong's other big technology campus. Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks says more than 300 park companies are developing Web3 technology, and HKSTP took part in the 2026 Hong Kong Web3 Festival. Like Cyberport on the Island, it is a place to work, hire and attend events, not a place to trade: Science Park, at Pak Shek Kok on the Sha Tin and Tai Po border, has no ATM or counter. The nearest staffed option is One Satoshi at Shatin Plaza.
Lantau, the islands and the countryside
The emptiest parts of the crypto map are all in this region. Lantau, Tung Chung and the airport have no machine on any operator list; the only confirmed outlying-island unit is CoinHero's on San Hing Street, Cheung Chau. Lamma, Peng Chau and Mui Wo have nothing we could find. Sai Kung town has a single buy-only machine in a laundry on Sai Kung Tai Street, and the country parks beyond it none. North District's villages and rural Yuen Long are similar. If you live in any of these places, a machine is a day trip.
That is a real gap, and nobody has filled it with a counter because the numbers would not work: one-room shops need foot traffic, and the dealer licensing regime the government has promised for 2026, with HK$5 million in proposed paid-up capital and no transition period, makes a new rural shop even less likely.
What to do if you live out here
For most New Territories residents, the honest answer is that a machine or a counter is the wrong tool for regular buying. A 13% fee plus HK$100 turns a HK$1,000 purchase into roughly HK$770 of Bitcoin, and a counter trip from Tai Po or Tseung Kwan O costs an afternoon. Keep the machines for what they do well: a small, immediate buy when you have notes in your pocket, or, at one of the three sell machines, a small cash-out. Where can I buy crypto with cash in the New Territories?
Staffed counters exist in Tsuen Wan (Crypto HK and PP Crypto, the latter by appointment), Yuen Long, Sheung Shui and Sha Tin (One Satoshi, two branches in Sha Tin). Everywhere else it is machines: CoinHero listed about 41 New Territories and islands sites during our research, CoinUnit and Nitroswap add more, and almost all are buy-only.
Is there a Bitcoin ATM in the New Territories that lets me sell?
Yes, three on CoinHero's 30 September 2026 locator: 14–16 San Kung Street in Sheung Shui, the Man Bo Building in Tuen Mun and Pau Cheung Square in Yuen Long. Selling costs 13% plus HK$25. A Hang Hau machine in Tseung Kwan O was listed as buy-and-sell earlier but was no longer marked that way.
Is there a crypto shop in Tuen Mun?
We could not confirm one. People search for USDT counters in Tuen Mun, but no walk-in shop appears on any operator list. The town has eight-plus ATMs from CoinHero, CoinUnit and Nitroswap, one of which buys crypto back. The nearest staffed counters are One Satoshi in Yuen Long and the two Tsuen Wan shops.
Do I need to declare cash when crossing to Shenzhen from Sheung Shui?
Yes, if you carry currency or bearer negotiable instruments worth more than HK$120,000. Cap. 629 requires arriving travellers to declare such amounts to Customs, and departing travellers to disclose them on request, at Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau and every other control point. Crypto held in a wallet is not physical currency, but the notes you trade it for are.
Is there a crypto ATM on Lantau or in Tung Chung?
Not that we could find. No operator list shows a machine on Lantau, in Tung Chung or at the airport. The only confirmed outlying-island machine is CoinHero's unit on San Hing Street, Cheung Chau. From Tung Chung, the nearest machines are around Kwai Fong and Tsing Yi, a short ride along the Tung Chung line.
Does Science Park have crypto companies?
Yes. Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks says more than 300 of its park companies are developing Web3 technology. Science Park at Pak Shek Kok, on the Sha Tin and Tai Po border, is a place of work, not a place to trade: it has no ATM or walk-in counter, and the nearest staffed option is One Satoshi in Sha Tin.
