Crypto in Sai Kung and TKO: one machine by the pier, five along the TKO line

Bitcoin ATM Tseung Kwan O and crypto in Sai Kung: the short answer

Tseung Kwan O has five Bitcoin ATMs listed by operators or aggregators, and Sai Kung town has exactly one. All the machines we could confirm are buy-only; you feed in HK$500 or HK$1,000 notes and receive crypto to your wallet. There is no walk-in crypto shop anywhere in Sai Kung District, so selling for cash means a trip to Kwun Tong or an online route.

Sai Kung District is really two places sharing one district council. One is the seafood-and-sampan town around the pier, reached only by road, with weekend hikers and a very local street life. The other is Tseung Kwan O, a new town of tall residential towers along the TKO line that most of the district’s population calls home. The crypto map follows the population: nearly everything is in TKO.

Sai Kung town: one machine near the pier

CoinHero’s locator lists a single machine in Sai Kung town, inside Lemon Laundry at Shop 26C, Sai Kung Tai Street. It is marked as open 24 hours and buy-only. Sai Kung Tai Street runs through the old town behind the waterfront, a few minutes’ walk from the bus terminus and the pier where the seafood boats tie up.

That one machine makes Sai Kung town the thinnest crypto spot in our New Territories coverage outside Lantau. It is fine if you live in the village houses around Sai Kung and want to top up a wallet with cash late at night. It is not a place to trade meaningful sums, and there is nobody to ask if something goes wrong: the laundry staff, where there are any, have nothing to do with the machine.

Weekend visitors should also note that Sai Kung town gets very busy on sunny Saturdays and Sundays. A laundry with a steady stream of strangers is not ideal for counting out several HK$1,000 notes. If you are visiting for a junk trip or a hike, it is easier to buy online before you leave, or to use one of the TKO machines on the way.

Getting out is straightforward. Green minibus 101M runs between Sai Kung and Hang Hau via Po Lam, bus 792M heads for Tseung Kwan O station, and minibus 1A goes to Choi Hung on the Kwun Tong line. Each route drops you near more machines than Sai Kung town has.

Tseung Kwan O machines, station by station

Tseung Kwan O’s five machines are easiest to understand by MTR station, because the TKO line splits after Tseung Kwan O station into a Po Lam branch and a LOHAS Park branch. The four CoinHero and CoinUnit units sit at Tseung Kwan O station or along the Po Lam branch; we found nothing listed at LOHAS Park or Tiu Keng Leng.

At Po Lam, CoinHero has a unit in the Speed Cut Center barber shop at King Lam Shopping Centre. It keeps shop hours, 10:00 to 20:00. Nearby, CoinUnit runs a 24/7 machine inside LaundrYup on the 5th floor of Tsui Lam Square, 11 Tsui Lam Road. That is an upper floor of an estate mall, so allow time for the lift.

At Hang Hau, CoinHero’s second Speed Cut Center unit is at Shop B33A, 1st floor, Nan Fung Plaza, 8 Pui Shing Road, the mall above the station, and it is listed as 24 hours. At Tseung Kwan O station, CoinHero’s Sunshine Laundry at Monterey Place, 23 Tong Chun Street, is also 24 hours.

The fifth, Nitroswap at Popstar in Well On Shopping Arcade, 9 Yuk Nga Lane, comes from aggregator data. Coin ATM Radar lists opening hours of 07:00 to 23:00 and shows both buy and sell prices. We could not load Nitroswap’s own location page, so treat the listing, and especially the sell function, as unconfirmed until you see it yourself.

The Hang Hau sell question

If you have read older guides, you may have seen Hang Hau described as the one place in TKO where you can sell crypto for cash. That came from CoinHero’s own list of buy-and-sell locations, which at one point included “TKO Hang Hau” among nine two-way machines across Hong Kong.

When we checked CoinHero’s locator on 30 September 2026, the Hang Hau machine at Nan Fung Plaza was marked buy only, and the network’s buy-and-sell list had shrunk to eight: Causeway Bay, Kwun Tong, Mong Kok, two in Tsim Sha Tsui, Sheung Shui, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long. Hang Hau was no longer on it. We report what the locator shows today, but it is exactly the kind of detail that can flip back, so check the machine’s own screen before relying on it.

The practical upshot: if you need to sell in the Sai Kung District, the only listed option is Nitroswap’s unconfirmed machine on Yuk Nga Lane. Otherwise, go to Kwun Tong, where CoinHero’s Yue Man Square unit (Shop 205, 2/F, YM², 33 Hip Wo Street, 10:00–22:00) is a confirmed two-way machine.

What the TKO and Sai Kung machines cost

Four of the six machines here are CoinHero units, and CoinHero publishes its fees. According to its official FAQ, buying BTC, ETH, DOGE or Tether Gold costs 13% plus a HK$100 fixed fee; selling BTC or ETH, where available, costs 13% plus HK$25. Registered members get a lower rate, listed at 6.5%. The minimum purchase is HK$500 and you can put in up to HK$100,000 per transaction before identity checks kick in.

The fixed fee is what hurts on small amounts. Put a single HK$1,000 note into the King Lam machine at the headline rate and about HK$230 goes on fees. At HK$10,000 the fixed part fades, but 13% is still HK$1,300 — enough for a very good seafood dinner in Sai Kung for a table of six.

CoinUnit’s Tsui Lam Square page does not state a fee. A figure of HK$90 plus 6.9% circulates in search snippets, but we could not confirm it on CoinUnit’s site. Nitroswap’s fees are not published in anything we could verify. Every machine shows its rate before you confirm, so read the screen carefully.

Nearest staffed counters: Kwun Tong

With no walk-in shop in Sai Kung or TKO, the nearest people to talk to are in Kwun Tong. From Tseung Kwan O or Hang Hau, ride to Tiu Keng Leng and change to the Kwun Tong line; Kwun Tong station is three stops on. From Sai Kung town, minibus 1A to Choi Hung and then three stops on the MTR is the obvious route.

In Kwun Tong, One Satoshi runs a counter at Kwun Tong Plaza, M/F Shop M4, 68 Hoi Yuen Road, and VBIT operates at G/F A8, Fook Cheong Building, 63 Hoi Yuen Road, according to their own store pages. Data centres on the TKO Industrial Estate

Tseung Kwan O has one more tech angle. At the southern end of the new town, beyond LOHAS Park, the TKO Industrial Estate run by HKSTP hosts several large data centres, part of the infrastructure behind Hong Kong’s finance and cloud sector. It is context, not a crypto destination: there is no retail service, and nothing we found suggests public crypto machines there.

If you work on the estate and want to start buying, the logic is the same as for any office worker: a licensed app funded from your salary account is cheaper and cleaner than a laundry machine. Our guide to the quickest ways to buy crypto legally lays out the options.

Online routes, and staying safe

For most people in TKO, a machine is the most expensive way in. The regulator’s preferred route is an SFC-licensed platform; the SFC list updated 29 May 2026 names 13, and our licensed exchange list compares them. You fund them by bank transfer or FPS, and sell back the same way, which also solves the “nowhere to sell” problem in Sai Kung. See our guide to selling for HKD.

If you would rather use a card, international exchanges accept Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay. These are not SFC-licensed, so check what protection you give up. Finally, the regulatory clock is ticking for all six machines. The government aims to put a VA dealing bill to LegCo within 2026 with no transitional period; once it takes effect, unlicensed operators, likely including ATM networks, must stop.
