Crypto on Hong Kong Island means three different things. There is a belt of mostly buy-only ATMs in laundromats along the north shore; there are staffed OTC counters in Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai and above all Causeway Bay; and there are the offices of the regulators and licensed platforms, none of which will sell you a coin over the counter.
Crypto on Hong Kong Island at a glance
If you only remember one thing: for a quick buy with notes, any Island line station from Sheung Wan to Chai Wan has a machine within a few minutes' walk. For selling, or for a person to talk to, head to Causeway Bay. For anything above a few thousand dollars, use a licensed platform, because the Island's cash trade has a documented robbery problem that we come back to below.
The numbers come mostly from operators. CoinHero, the largest ATM network in the city, listed 24 Island locations when we compiled our research; when we re-read its locator on 30 September 2026 the Island tally had dropped to 21. CoinUnit covers 16 Island districts on its map. Localcoin, the Australian operator that arrived in February 2025, put its first-wave machines in Central & Western, Eastern, Southern and Wan Chai districts, according to its launch release. These lists move every week, so read the Places cards below as a representative sample, not a census.

Bitcoin ATMs on Hong Kong Island: the north-shore belt
Walk the Island line and you will notice where the machines live: not in banks or shopping malls, but inside 24-hour self-service laundries, claw-machine arcades and small ground-floor shops. That placement is why most are open all night, and also why many feel a little improvised. Expect a screen, a note slot, a camera and a phone-number prompt.
At the western end, the belt starts in Sai Ying Pun and Sheung Wan, where CoinUnit has laundromat machines on Bonham Strand and Hollywood Road and CoinHero has one on Eastern Street. We could not confirm a machine inside Kennedy Town proper on the CoinHero list, so check CoinUnit's and Localcoin's maps if you are at the terminus. In Central, the standout is CoinUnit's unit on Central Pier 7, one of the few Island machines that sells as well as buys. Admiralty, oddly, has none confirmed. Wan Chai picks up again on Hennessy Road and Johnston Road, and Causeway Bay has the flagship that anchors the network.
East of Causeway Bay, the machines keep coming: Tin Hau on King's Road, two in North Point, two in Quarry Bay including one at the foot of Montane Mansion, the "Monster Building" that photographers queue for, then Sai Wan Ho, Shau Kei Wan, Chai Wan and Siu Sai Wan. Every one we checked on CoinHero's list was buy-only.

Costs are the same as elsewhere in the city. CoinHero's FAQ lists 13% plus a HK$100 fixed fee to buy Bitcoin or Ether, a HK$500 minimum and a HK$100,000 cap per unregistered transaction; selling costs 13% plus HK$25. CoinUnit accepts only HK$500 and HK$1,000 notes; a quoted fee of HK$90 plus 6.9% could not be confirmed on its site. OTC counters: Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay
The Island has fewer walk-in counters than Kowloon, but they are easier to find and, in two cases, part of established chains. From west to east:
Central. Crypto HK runs a trading and education centre on the 15th floor of 9 Queen's Road Central, weekdays only. The Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong's guide also lists Q9 Capital on the ground floor of the same address, but that entry may be stale. Central's crypto trade is mainly institutional: desks, professional investors and the licensed platforms' sales teams. Our Central and Sheung Wan page has the details.
Admiralty. Admiralty Centre at 18 Harcourt Road works as an unofficial OTC mall. Crypto HK's shop 51 on the first floor opens seven days a week; cash trades under HK$100,000 need no appointment, bigger ones are booked by WhatsApp or Telegram. Yahoo Finance reported that some Admiralty shops suspended USDT after the Stablecoins Ordinance took effect in August 2025. See the Admiralty guide.
Wan Chai. Hopewell Centre was reported in May 2025 to host counters such as Tian Tian Crypto and ONE GO; we have not re-verified them. Wan Chai's bigger role is as the events district, covered on our Wan Chai page.
Causeway Bay. This is the Island's retail capital: two One Satoshi branches, a VBIT shop on King Lung Street and the CoinHero flagship, which doubles as the company's head office. If you want to sell crypto for notes without crossing the harbour, this is the place. Our Causeway Bay guide maps them exit by exit.

Spreads at counters are usually far tighter than machine fees, but practice varies. Wu Blockchain reported in May 2025 that most shops it visited asked only for a QR payment and a wallet address, while a few wanted names and a source-of-funds statement. Buying by card or FPS in an app avoids the 13% machine fee and the walk with cash in your pocket.

Hong Kong Island hosts almost every institution that shapes the market. The SFC's head office is on 54/F of One Island East in Taikoo Place, Quarry Bay. The HKMA, which licenses stablecoin issuers and granted the first two licences to HSBC and Anchorpoint in April 2026, is in Two IFC. Two of the licensed trading platforms have Island addresses from directories: HKbitEX on On Hing Terrace in Central and HKVAX at Dah Sing Financial Centre in Wan Chai. OSL's office is given in company filings as 39/F Lee Garden One in Causeway Bay, though a competing directory places it in Quarry Bay; we could not confirm which is current. HashKey Exchange lists Cyberport 3.

None of these offices serves walk-in customers. You deal with them through their apps, and you can check any platform against the SFC's licensed list, which named 13 platforms at its 29 May 2026 update. Cyberport's Web3 campus
On the far side of the Island, above Telegraph Bay, Cyberport has become the government's chosen home for Web3. Its own figures show the blockchain and digital-asset community growing from about 150 companies in June 2023 to about 270 in November 2024 and more than 310 in 2026, according to Cyberport's blockchain page. HashKey Exchange's operating company lists its office in Cyberport 3, and HKVAX came through the Cyberport incubation programme.
For a buyer, Cyberport is a place to work or attend a meetup, not a place to trade. There is no MTR station, only buses from Kennedy Town or HKU, and no ATM or counter on campus. The nearest machine we found is CoinHero's unit at Chi Fu Landmark in Pok Fu Lam, about two kilometres away, and it is buy-only.
Events and community on the Island
If you want to meet the industry rather than just buy a coin, the Island is again the place. The convention centre in Wan Chai hosted Consensus Hong Kong from 10 to 12 February 2026, with about 11,000 attendees, and the Hong Kong Web3 Festival from 20 to 23 April. During Bitcoin Asia week in late August, the Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong ran meetups in Central, at the IFC rooftop and at Frank's Records on Wyndham Street, and the week's 5K run started from Central Pier 9.
Go for information, not deals. Event halls attract token pitches, cloud-mining schemes and "guaranteed return" offers, and in July and August 2026 the SFC was still adding lookalike domains that impersonated DFX Labs and HashKey to its suspicious-platform list. If an event leaves you wanting to open an account, do it at home, typing the platform's address yourself after checking the SFC register.
The east side and the Southern gap
From Tin Hau to Chai Wan, the Island is ATM-only. North Point and Quarry Bay have good coverage, with at least five machines across CoinHero and CoinUnit, some open 24 hours, and WORFU at Provident Centre on Wharf Road listed by CoinUnit with shorter mall hours. What they lack is a staffed counter or a sell machine. If you live in Taikoo Shing and want to sell, your nearest options are the Causeway Bay flagship and the One Satoshi branches, two or three stops west.
The Southern District is thinner still. CoinHero lists buy-only machines at Wah Kwai Estate and the Jumbo Building in Aberdeen, Shun King Court in Ap Lei Chau and the Lei Tung shopping centre, and Localcoin included Southern in its first wave. Beyond Aberdeen, in Wong Chuk Hang's offices, Repulse Bay, Stanley and Shek O, we found nothing. That makes the south side, together with Lantau and the airport, one of the city's clearest gaps, and it is why readers there are better served by a licensed app than by a bus to Causeway Bay.
Sheung Wan, money changers and cash safety
Sheung Wan has no confirmed crypto counter, but it has something that matters more to anyone carrying cash: the traditional money-changer cluster on Wing Lok Street and Des Voeux Road Central, and a run of violent robberies around it. On 18 December 2025, employees of a Japanese crypto and luxury-goods company were robbed on Wing Lok Street of about ¥1 billion, roughly HK$50 million, while taking it to a money changer; HKFP reported 15 arrests. On 30 January 2026 another ¥51 million was taken outside 272 Des Voeux Road Central, and two staff of a Tsim Sha Tsui virtual-currency shop were among those arrested. On 6 March 2026, about HK$10 million in US dollars and renminbi was snatched near Sheung Wan MTR Exit B; RTHK said police had seen three money-changer robberies in recent months.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the Bitcoin ATM in Central, Hong Kong Island?
The best-known one is CoinUnit's machine on the upper deck of Central Pier 7, next to the HSBC ATM. It runs 24 hours, takes HK$500 and HK$1,000 notes, and both buys and sells BTC, ETH, DOGE, LTC and TRX. CoinHero also has a buy-only unit at 151 Queen's Road Central. Can I sell Bitcoin for cash on Hong Kong Island?
Yes, in a few places. CoinHero's Causeway Bay flagship at 1A Canal Road East is its only Island machine that buys crypto back, at 13% plus HK$25. CoinUnit's Pier 7 machine also sells. Staffed counters that pay out notes include One Satoshi's two Causeway Bay branches and Crypto HK in Admiralty Centre.
Is there a crypto ATM in the Southern District or Aberdeen?
A few. CoinHero lists buy-only machines in Aberdeen (Wah Kwai Estate and the Jumbo Building on Aberdeen Main Road), Ap Lei Chau, Lei Tung and Chi Fu in Pok Fu Lam. Beyond those, the south side has nothing we could confirm: no staffed counter, no sell machine, and nothing in Stanley, Repulse Bay or Cyberport itself.
Can I walk into HashKey or OSL to buy crypto?
No. HashKey Exchange lists its office at Cyberport 3 and company filings place OSL at Lee Garden One in Causeway Bay, but neither runs a retail counter. You open an account in the app, verify your identity online and fund it by FPS or bank transfer. Both are on the SFC's list of licensed trading platforms.
Where is the SFC office in Hong Kong?
The Securities and Futures Commission is on 54/F of One Island East, 18 Westlands Road, Quarry Bay, with the reception for hand-delivered documents on 38/F. It is a regulator, not a place to trade. Its website publishes the list of licensed virtual-asset trading platforms and a list of suspicious platforms.
Is it safe to carry cash to Sheung Wan money changers?
Take care. Sheung Wan's Wing Lok Street and Des Voeux Road Central cluster saw several large robberies between December 2025 and March 2026, including one outside MTR Exit B. Police linked some cases to crypto and money-changing. If you must move large sums, use a bank transfer instead of carrying notes.
